MAJ. DELBERT HUTSON U.S. Marine Corps, Retired Delbert Marshall Hutson, 70, of Las Vegas, passed away May 1, 2010. Major Hutson was born May 8, 1939, in Detroit, to parents, Andrew Woodrow and Marie Jewel. Major Hutson attended the Columbia Military Academy and distinguished himself as a scholar and a leader and he was elected cadet commander in his senior year. He then attended Eastern Michigan University and earned a bachelor's degree in history. Major Hutson joined the Marine Corps as an officer in 1962. He served two tours in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart and additional medals for distinguished service. He earned a master's degree from Pepperdine University. Major Hutson retired from military service in 1983. Following his military career, Major Hutson continued to serve by teaching Marine Corps JROTC in Covington, Ky. for over 10 years. Major Hutson's JROTC drill team won multiple awards including national titles. Following his retirement, Major Hutson enjoyed playing poker, golf and sharing his wonderful sense of humor and enjoyment of life with family and friends. Major Hutson is survived by his loving wife, of over 30 years, Josephine Christy Hutson; son, Delbert Marshall Hutson Jr. of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Diane Mae Hutson of Richmond, Dawn Marie Saddler of Ashburn, Va., and Dr. Deanna Hutson Mihaly of Brighton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kelly Mihaly, Drake Saddler, Drew Hutson and Johnson Mihaly; brother, Benne Hutson and his family of Charlotte, North Carolina. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, both at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Service and interment will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.
