Dean Arden Greenwood Jr., 79, passed away at home on December 17, 2023
with his family by his side. Dean was born in Rapid City, SD to
parents United States Army Lt. Colonel Dean Arden Greenwood and Myrtle
Jessie Greenwood (née Marquardt) on February 22, 1944. In his early
years, Dean was well traveled having lived and attended primary school
in Japan and secondary school in Germany. Dean was an all around
athlete participating in many competitive sports including football,
basketball, and baseball. Having moved around so much in his youth,
Dean then found a home in Santa Barbara, CA after being awarded a
scholarship to play football at Santa Barbara City College. In 1966,
Dean enlisted in the United States Armed Forces Army Division and
completed Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Fort Benning, GA. In
1968, Dean was sent to serve in Vietnam in the United States Army,
Americal 23rd Infantry Division. After sustaining an injury, he
returned home to Santa Barbara, CA where he studied Political Science
at the University of California, Santa Barbara earning a Bachelor of
Arts degree with High Honors. While studying, Dean continued to serve
in the United States Army and was later stationed in South Korea where
he was married and started a family. Upon retiring from the Army
(1990) with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Dean settled with his
family in Las Vegas, NV where he resided for over 30 years. While
living in Las Vegas, Dean found his dream job working as a logistical
manager for Mission Industries Linen Company. In retirement, Dean was
an avid golfer and outdoorsman who loved jogging, walking, and keeping
physically fit. Dean is survived by his wife of 43 years Gloria (née
Won); his children daughters Jessie Lee Wallace (née Greenwood),
Jennifer Sue del Valle (née Greenwood), and son Dean Arden III; his
four grandchildren; grandson Aaron Saul del Valle, and granddaughters
Alaina Sun del Valle, Kylee Hana Greenwood-Guzzo, and Autumn Won
Wallace; niece Debra Sue Louie (née Greenwood), and nephew Robert
Allen Greenwood. Dean was preceded in death by his parents Dean
(1994), Myrtle (2005), and sister Susan Jo Greenwood (2015). A
Military Honor ceremony will be held for Dean on Tuesday, January 30,
2024 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder
City, NV at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to please
