David Ross Phillips

David Ross Phillips, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 29th, 2024. Born on October 18th, 1952 in Galveston, Texas to Emma Jene Phillips and Leonard Phillips Sr., Dave always held his “BOI”, born on the island, status with honor and was influenced by Galveston’s lifestyle of ingenuity, resilience, friendliness, and historic architecture—which led him to Texas A&M University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Environmental Design in 1976.

Dave was a proud lifelong “Aggie” and carried the school’s values of excellence, integrity, and leadership into all aspects of his life. Dave would gleam when speaking about his work in architecture, construction, and project management, which he approached with a meticulous nature and a deep sense of passion. His projects spanned across the United States, and ranged from residential and educational developments to renowned restaurants and massive malls. Dave left a lasting impression on Las Vegas with his integral role in the conception and construction of City Hall in 2012. David’s exquisite eye for detail and quest for perfection in his projects will last the test of time. Dave was respected and admired by his colleagues and superiors, who bestowed upon him a lighthouse award after completing the San Francisco City Centre Westfield Mall, stating: “You Provided the Light.”

Outside of his professional pursuits, Dave dedicated his time and energy to the people and hobbies he cherished most. He was a devoted husband who relished in being romantic on his favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day. Dave was an absolute pool shark, avid golfer, skier, and fan of NASCAR and football. Always cooking phenomenal Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners along with being the family’s designated BBQ master and seafood aficionado, Dave lovingly passed along those skills to his children. Despite protesting each new canine addition to the household, he quickly fell in love and spoiled every family dog. He enjoyed watching TV and action movies, attending car shows and concerts, loved to blast music in the house or car and sing along, and to have intellectual discussions about life’s journey and challenges. His wisdom, loyalty, honesty, and sharp wit will be deeply missed amongst his friends and family.

Dave was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers Jimmy and Butch Phillips, and sister-in-law Mitzi Phillips. Dave is survived by his wife Jacqueline Phillips, children Shawn and Jess Phillips and their spouses Alicia Waldon and Raul Lara Garcia, his dog Missy and grandpups Bella, Bugs and Chia. Additionally Dave is survived by a large family: Jerry, Nina, Lauren, Brendan, Sabrina, Azaria, Blaise, Laeth, Mike,Dianne, Patrick, Stephanie, Todd, Tiffany, and Megan Phillips, Marco, Nicolo and Arianna Simoni, Dan, Evan, Emma and Ella Gross, and Karissa Anderson. Dave was blessed to have many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews-in-law in the Cosentino family who will be joining us in saying our final goodbyes to David.

Services will be held on Monday December 16th, 2024 at Palm East Mortuary located at 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89123. His viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a service from 1:00 to 2:00pm, and closing with his burial at 2:00pm in the Inspiration Garden. Live stream of the funeral service will be available for those who cannot attend. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Stroke Association if desired.
