Darrell Lamar Scott

Darrell Lamar Scott was born August 1, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Johnny Benjamin Scott Sr. and Ann Beth Bell. Darrell was the second oldest of five siblings. A beloved husband, son and father, Darrell peacefully transitioned with the love of his life, Karen by his side.
In his formative years, the Scott family relocated from Las Vegas to the southern comforts of Biloxi, Mississippi. Darrell graduated from Biloxi High School and later went on to major in Music and Voice, at Alcorn State University. Who knew that the skills that he developed in his formative years would later bless the world? Darrell’s unique sound began to capture the attention of anyone that was in earshot of his gift. His booming Baritone, coupled with his soothing Second Tenor were a winning combination. It was once said that Darrell’s unique vibrato was a sound to be reckoned with.
Darrell eventually relocated back to Las Vegas in the late 1980’s, when during the 80’s and 90’s Darrell was considered “that Karaoke King”, he won many local and national competitions. His sound captured the attention of Jean Bennett, the original co-manager of the world-famous Platters. Darrell’s assignment was to lead the group into a new era. During his tenure with the Platters, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Over the years Darrell was blessed to share the stage with many great artists including Marvin Hamlisch, Al Wilson, Ali Woodson, and the list goes on. Darrell collaborated with many seasoned artists and mentored future artists and groups in Las Vegas and surrounding areas.
In 2017 Darrell met Karen and dated for one year before getting married June 15, 2018. It was an instant connection and a whirlwind romance where they were rarely separated. They were drawn to each
other through music and worship. They were destined to be together.
Outside of his professional life, Darrell was a family man who enjoyed the festive nature of gatherings. His distinctive laugh was infectious and it brightened the day of those around him. It is no secret that Darrell had a incredibly competitive nature! He was an avid tournament pool player, let him tell it and was a decent player on the basketball court. Darrell was also known to be quite a fashionable dresser, from head to toe.
Another bright light in his life was his daughter, Delicia Williams, who he truly adored. They both loved celebrating together and being with family. The two were very close and were such a blessing to one another.
Beyond the lights, stages, standing ovations and encores, Darrell was a worshipper. His love of God and his people was unparalleled. His ability to shift an atmosphere through song was pure anointing. At the time of his transition Darrell was a faithful member of Remnant Ministries, where he diligently served with the Worship Ministry. Over the years Darrell was a member of Zion United Methodist and Saint Paul United Methodist when he first developed his vocal abilities.
Darrell, The Voice, The Encourager, will always be remembered for his unwavering integrity and ability to connect with people. Darrell had a way of assuring people, they had value and were loved. His willingness to lend a helping hand and offer words of wisdom will never be forgotten. His kind
heart illuminated every space that he occupied.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Karen Scott, mother, Ann Beth Scott, daughters, Delicia Williams and Kalilah Haywood, brothers, Johnny Benjamin Scott, Jr. and Jeffrey Scott, sister, Kimberly Scott, as well as many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him "Uncle D" and a host of other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Benjamin Scott, Sr., and his brother Brian Scott.
Darrell’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness and compassion will continue to inspire others for generations to come.
