After attending Concordia University in Seward, NE, Dale began teaching in the Lutheran School system in El Monte, CA. After two years, he took a call to St. Louis, MO. It was here that he was assigned as a Cooperating Teacher for Bonnie Grom, who would soon become his beloved wife. They were happily married for nearly 42 years and were blessed with six children.
A life-long educator, Dale’s teaching career spanned several decades, first in El Monte, CA, then in St. Louis, MO, Boone, IA, and most recently in Las Vegas, NV. He was supposedly retired from teaching upon moving to Las Vegas but could not be kept out of the classroom and worked as a substitute teacher several times a week. He also served as an elder at his church. During his decades-long teaching career and throughout his life he left an indelible impression on all of his students and those he met. He taught by example how to treat people with kindness and integrity.
Dale leaves behind his wife, Bonnie; children Rebecca and Tony Corson, Steven Karner, Jennifer Karner, Kimberly Karner, Heather Karner, and Matthew Karner; sister Carol Karner; brother Scott Karner; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralph Karner and Glen Karner.
The family welcomes all friends of Dale’s to celebrate his life with them. A visitation will be held in Las Vegas, NV at Palm Mortuary Cheyenne, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at Mt. View Lutheran Church, 9550 W Cheyenne Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89129, on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 6:00p.m., with a graveside service at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131, on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Dale’s name to Lutheran Church Charities (lutheranchurchcharities.org).
