"Today i had to say goodbye to my teacher, my confidant, my partner, my lover and my soulmate Colin Edgar Humphrey.
When I met Eddie almost 50 years ago in 1973, he was in full white tuxedo costume, floating down from the ceiling in rehearsal for Hallelujah Hollywood and I knew right then from 200 feet away he was the one for me. After all I was from NYC and I learned never let a magical moment or opportunity go by.
Ed fascinated me. He was president of his senior high-school class, valedictorian, played several musical instruments (as a child he won a talent contest performing boogie woogie on piano) and was just an all around good guy.
He went to NYC on an opera scholarship and landed a job with Santa Fe Opera. When he returned to Las Vegas he started his own vocal group Glory with two other singers Cathey Riegel/Coleman and Gary Poirot and performed in lounges and night clubs all over the strip. In an era that everything was performed live on the strip they were called to perform back up jazz, classical, and pop songs for a who's who in the entertainment world.
Once being an opening act for Dionne Warwick at Harrahs in Reno, Merv Griffith live tv show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and many USO TOURS to Vietnam and Thailand. Our lives were always intertwined together and that was never enough for me. The more time I spent with Ed the more I learned and developed.
We sang together since 1998 in Las Vegas Men's Chorus and toured Europe and San Francisco with Myron Heaton Chorale. And earlier in Community Lutheran Celebration Chor. Ed then produced more shows all over the U.S and Mexico.
I was lucky enough to have Gary Gardia and Ramona Shaw also from our Hallelujah Hollywood days to guide me through the Nathan Adelson Hospice. As Ed wanted only to die with dignity in his own bed at home. They came out every day with a nurse or counselor for therapy. They sent the particularly comforting Matt Metevelis who gave the Yeah tho I walk through the valley of death speech.... Ed only rolled his eyes. I couldn't tell if that was approval or I'm double parked here in this bed hurry it up look.
After the Reverend left I did my interpretive dance of all our numbers from Hallelujah Hollywood that I could remember. And day after day while he laid in bed I got to do every Gershwin number I could ever remember that would certainly cheer him up or send him over the rainbow a little faster but he was my captive audience and it kept his mind going.
October 9th at 7am Ed finally crossed over the rainbow peacefully and feeling the love of all his interns and friends who had come by to say farewell. His boss Jean Recomoonta and Rosalie Adriano at Admired Behavior Company and his interns Juanderra and Whitney and many others I spoke to and called for all their love and support. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Let's not forget the support of his two beautiful nieces, Dawn Cramer and Gayle Mckibbon who didn't hesitate to throw in all their support when Ed needed it the most. They had just lost Ed's sister Barbara Cramer, their mother June 2 2022.
I've asked Ed to save me a seat next to him in that Angels Choir in Heaven. I'll find him again as any good soul mate would do.
Eddie, here's looking at you kid! Goodbye Sweet Prince, and Thanks for the Memories. You are my Rock, my Angel my Guide. I'll be with you soon enough on the other side."
