Clarence Leroy Haycock (Clair), died December 19th, 2013 in Las Vegas; he was 84 years old. Clair was born November 5th, 1929 in Burley, Idaho, to Cecil and Marie Cannon Haycock. His mother passed shortly after his birth and Clair was raised by his aunt and uncle, Fred and Lillie Haycock Parish of Elba, Idaho. The family moved to Gig Harbor, Washington when Clair was still young. Clair’s early schooling was in Gig Harbor; and he graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington. From there he went to Dixie College in St. George, Utah where he met and married Colleen Jolley of Washington, Utah. After graduating from Dixie, Clair went on to earn a degree from The California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles and shortly thereafter they moved to Las Vegas. The year was 1955. While working nights at Palm Mortuary, Clair worked days for Standard Oil Company of California on one of their service stations, which ultimately led to a long and very successful career operating Haycock Petroleum Company, a multi-state petroleum marketing operation, which the family sold in 2006. During his career, Clair was very involved in the Las Vegas community. He served on the Nevada State Gaming Commission for 7 years and on the State Public Employees Retirement Board (PERS) for several years. He was active in Rotary International, and served as President of The North Las Vegas Club as well as District Governor’s Representative for District 530. He also served as President of the Las Vegas YMCA, and as Chief Barker for Las Vegas Variety Club, where he received the HEART AWARD for service to handicapped and under privileged children. Clair is survived by his wife Colleen; children, Marie (Rex) Christensen of Alta, Wyoming; Julie (David) Colton of Mesa, Arizona; and John (Shea) Haycock of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, January 4th at the LDS Chapel on Peace Way in Las Vegas. There will be a viewing the night before at Palm Mortuary on South Jones Blvd. The family is asking that any memorial donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
