Cindy May passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 surrounded by her family after her long and courageous fight against eight years of cancer. Cindy was born on August 5, 1967 to parents William “Larry” and Jacqueline May. She was the youngest of three children. Cindy had a style and charisma about her. She loved to pull pranks or scare you. And, yes, at times do a little gossiping. Cindy was a loyal friend, and was honorable in her career and life. She also enjoyed making people happy. Cindy was the type of person who you could go to for help. If she could help you solve your problem she did; if not, rest assured she went and found someone who could. Cindy was known around her neighborhood as the “Home Depot”. If you needed a special tool, she had it. But the rules were…you take it, you bring it back. Cindy was a routine person and everything had a place. She was diligent in keeping things in order and in the original box. Cindy would say, “If you take care of it, it will last forever”. She also had the unbelievable talent to get something back in the box just as it was when purchased. She had the patience of a saint when it came to things. Patience and problem-solving were a gift to her, so wanting to be a Police Officer made sense. Cindy began her 23-year Metro career. She started as a corrections officer, then a patrol officer, and finally as a detective retiring in January 2014. She achieved many things throughout her career. Cindy didn’t slow down after retirement. She was always working on some project around the house. Cindy loved the outdoors; she was a master of a green well-manicured lawn. She also found pure happiness in doing her many wood crafts. Cindy idolized her fur babies TJ and Jill. She was an awesome mommy to them and the many before them. Cindy rarely came home from shopping without a toy for each of them. Cindy had a “heart of gold” and loved unconditionally. She was best known for her love of bugs, sarcastic over-the-hill birthday cards, crazy sense of humor and a certain silly laugh and tears when she was really tickled by something she heard or did to someone. Cindy built and shared a wonderful life and home with her partner in life, Dorothy, for over 19 years. They spent time going to the beach, camping in their travel trailer with friends, fulfilling some bucket list items such as going on a cruise, the Price Is Right, and traveling. All wonderful memories she would cherish forever. Cindy has joined her father and many other loved ones in Heaven. We love and miss you terribly but there is comfort in knowing we will be reunited again. Cindy is survived by Dorothy; mother Jacqueline May; sister Cathy Combs and brother-in-law Bobby Combs II; brother John May; nephews Bradley Combs and Bobby Combs III; and her fur babies TJ and Jill.
