Charley V. Johnson was born in Marshall, Texas on April 28, 1925. She attended Prairie View College. She entered Heaven’s gates on November 19, 2017. She retired with her husband Andrew to Las Vegas from Los Angeles in 1992.
A consummate wife, mother, professional and homemaker, Charley V began her career during World War II as” Rosie the riveter working on the airplane assembly line with her sisters Gene and Marie. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991 after 30 years of employment. Her mother Alice and father Charlie—who named her were married for fifty years. She was married to her husband Andrew for 53 years until his death in 2000. Both were very young when they were married. Patricia, Michael, Andrew, JR., and Jerome were born three years apart. The family camped every summer at Yosemite National park growing up. Because they were young there were always family picnics, dinners, and travel. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and preparing meals with her sister Gene. Family dinners were like going to an exclusive restaurant with china, silver, and formal settings. Over the years she traveled with Andrew. The highlight of their travel was when they spent a month in Tahiti traveling from island to island on a private plane and living in a villa with their friend Pierre. “She said she got tired of so much seafood and fruit”. They also traveled to Tahiti, Hawaii and many other places until Andrew passed in 2000. She loved cloths and dressing them both. She had a very large wardrobe of designer clothes, shoes, and bags. They were a beautiful couple. She also loved to watch golf, football and baseball, game shows, food and cooking channels and soap operas. Her son’s Andrew friends sharing updates. They both had the uncanny ability to make each other laugh. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed attending and watching on TV football and baseball.
Charley had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of First A.M.E. Zion Church. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years. Her parents Alice Veasey Smith and Charlie Smith. She was also predeceased by her eldest son Michael. Her siblings Marie, Jasper, Jasper, Geneva, Theodis, and her niece Diane. Charley is survived by her son Jerome, Andrew and his wife Jerri, Her daughter Patricia Metoyer and her husband Luke, Sr. and their daughter, Candace. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Devyn Johnson, Nia Britt, Travon Johnson, and His wife Nathalie and their three children, Jazz, Justice, and Liberty. Deon Angel, Lisa, and her daughter Shelby. Anthony and Renee McCrary. Her sister in law Lucille and the many other family members throughout the United States.
Her daughter Patricia, sons Michael land Jerome lovingly cared for her the last 17 years of her life. Her son Andrew provided emotion support for her with his uplifting visits from Harbor City, California. The family wants to thank the loving caregivers and companion who loved and took care of her everyday especially Victoria Santos and Leticia Rodrigues. They are family. Special thanks to April her niece for always supporting her during hospitalizations and illnesses.
A graveside service will be held at Palm North Jones Cemetery at a later date. She will be interred with her husband Andrew Johnson at that time.
