Charles Henry Miles Jr., of Las Vegas, was born March 25, 1927, in Detroit, and passed away May 23, 2014, at the age of 87. He was the second child and only son of Manola Mackinnon Miles and Charles Henry Miles Sr. He and his family moved to Las Vegas in 1932 and he graduated Las Vegas High School in 1945. The day after graduation he went into U.S. Navy boot camp, and then on to University of Nevada, where he graduated in 1950. He then received his law degree from Stanford University and clerked for the California Supreme Court before returning to Las Vegas in 1955, where he lived and worked for the next 59 years. His favorite legal accomplishments were serving on the board of Bar Examiners and rewriting several Nevada State Statutes. Charles loved playing tennis and bass fishing at Lake Mead. He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Jeanette Williamson Miles; his sister, Charlotte Ray; his children, Doug Miles and Cheryl Miles; and three grandchildren. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 29. Funeral services will be at noon Friday, May 30, both at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
