Charles “Charlie” Ghormley a successful restaurant owner of Las Vegas passed away peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born on March 28, 1932 in Arkansas. Charlie brought his family to Las Vegas in 1961 to work at the Nevada test site as a lineman. He always wanted a business of his own, and decided to open a catfish restaurant, and the first Las Vegas Hush Puppy Restaurant opened in 1975. He later opened restaurants in Bakersfield, CA, Phoenix, AZ and Texarkana, TX. Charlie was known by every guest who entered his restaurant because he greeted them personally with his warm smile and southern welcome. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and the community that he served. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Beatrice Ghormley; his brother, Ottis Ghormley; and his sister, Nell Hooper. Charlie leaves to cherish the memories and to continue his legacy, his devoted and loving wife, partner, and friend of 63 years, Virginia Ghormley; his three supportive sons, Roger (Frances), Michael and Scott (Stacy) Ghormley; five grandchildren, Matthew, Jesse (Melissa), James (Laura), Taylor, and Hayley Ghormley; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Wyatt, and Gracelynn Ghormley; a sister, Glenda Berg; and his extended family and friends at his restaurants. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 5th from 3-7pm at Palm South Jones Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. A funeral service will be on Saturday, August 6th at 11:00am at Shadow Hills Church, 7811 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89128, and immediately following is the burial at Bunker’s Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd.
