She was born October 9, 1938 in Tallulah, Louisiana to Joshua and Carrie Newman. She later moved to Las Vegas in 1958. She was married to the love of her life, Will McDowell, who preceded her in death. Their union was one of a kind. Carrie received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from UNLV. She was one of the first black nurses to work at Valley Hospital. Carrie dedicated her life caring for others, and after 20 years of nursing, she retired in 1992. Carrie was a God-fearing woman, and she ministered through her love of singing. She sang in the choir at Victory Baptist Church for many years. Carrie was a faithful servant to God until He called her home.
She is survived by her son, Kenny Guice and her daughter, Amy Grimble (Jerry), grandson, Jalen Grimble and great-grandchildren Davion Grubbs and Jordan Wingfield. Her granddaughter, Kenya Johnson, preceded her in death.
Carrie leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, and cherishes memories of other extended family members and friends who held her dear.
