Carol Ann (Campbell) Johnson passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, just 11 days after a suspected cancer diagnosis. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 21, 1945, the daughter of John Stuart “Jack” and Marion (Lorenz) Campbell. Carol graduated from Portage Central High School and attended Ferris State University before meeting her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Johnson, while working at Upjohn. They married in 1966 and had three children, but their two oldest children each died of a rare disease at 4 months old. Carol’s greatest joy was being a mom to her surviving daughter, Lynn. Carol treasured summers with her family at homes at Gun Lake and South Haven, Michigan. She also enjoyed relaxing by the pool, eating out, decorating, and shopping. Carol loved gadgets, finding great deals, and giving “the perfect thing” to others. Those who loved Carol knew she had QVC on speed dial.
Carol is survived by: her daughter, Lynn (Johnson Wile) and son-in-law Brian Ruf; grandchildren Morgan and James “JJ” Wile, and Nicole Ruf, all of Aldie, Virginia. She is also survived by: her sister and brother-in-law, Susan (Campbell) and Chris Grewe of Henderson, Nevada; brother and sister-in-law Robert “Bob” and Carla (Casteel) Campbell of Portage, Michigan; nieces Sydney (Campbell) Welch, Carolyn “Kelly” Teemer-Altemara, Susan (Johnson) Callender, and Diane Johnson Wirth. She loved her family fiercely, and she talked with her daughter – the love of her life - every day.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant children, Lisa and Jeff; sister Marcia “Marty” (Campbell) Teemer; and brother Patrick. A memorial service will not be held at this time, but her family will be receiving friends at her home on October 14 to celebrate her life.
Carol’s life was forever changed due to the death of her first two children. In hopes of preventing others from suffering a similar loss, the family requests memorial contributions to the Histiocytosis Association, Inc. (www.histio.org) as an expression of sympathy.
