Carol Ann Burgess, 74 years old, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 25. 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her two children, Cindy and Dan were with her at the time. She was born July 20, 1944 in Chicago, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but resided most of her married life in Naperville (except for a brief move to Indianapolis) until 2001 when she moved to Las Vegas. She met her husband, Russel Burgess on a blind date in early 1967 and they were married September 30, 1967. They were happily married for 47 years until Russel's passing in 2014. Carol is survived by her son Dan Burgess (wife Nathalie Burgess) of Las Vegas and daughter Cindy (Burgess) Lunde (husband Alan Lunde) of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her six adored grandchildren: Zachary (17), Allison (12), and Jackson (10) Burgess of Las Vegas and Matthew (13), Amanda (12) and Angela (9) Lunde of Phoenix, her brother Richard (Dick) Matthews, sister-in-law Carole Matthews, and nieces Heather Wimsatt and Holly Baker and their families, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband , Russel Burgess, and parents Walter Douglas and Marie (Hadac) Matthews. Carol was a dedicated mother and chose to stay home and raise her children in their younger years. When they were older she went to school to become a paralegal and excelled at her job. She then supported her husband and worked for his small business for many years (Minuteman Press in Downers Grove). After her retirement from the printing business, she loved her retail jobs at the Hallmark store and Kohls in Las Vegas, where she met several of her best friends. Carol was a devoted wife, a wonderful mom and a devoted grandma to her six grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren with all she had, and worked tirelessly to make each visit special and happy. She believed in each of them, and encouraged them in every dream or hope they had. She supported each of them either in person at every recital, play, game or competition she could; and when the time came when she couldn't, she had to hear about every small detail. Our joy brought her joy. Our tears brought her sadness. All of those things made it so easy to love her, and now miss her, terribly. She loved to craft, both with paint and needle art. Dozens of her pieces can be found in the homes of friends and family from Illinois to Nevada and Arizona. Although our hearts are breaking we are comforted in the fact that she is no longer suffering and is reunited with the love of her life in Heaven. There will be a service to celebrate her life on August 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Palm Mortuary, 7400 Cheyenne Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89129
