Mrs. Bettye Jean Matlock Dixon was born in Fordyce, Arkansas, the third child of Mr. Clinton Matlock and Ms. Blanchie Vaughn (both preceded her in death). She graduated from Calhoun County High School (Thornton, AR) and The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Las Vegas, NV). Bettye was preceded in death by one brother and one sister: OL Matlock and Gracie May Broughton (Fordyce, AR ) & her three sons: James Welton Carter III, Cheapell Carter Dixon & Anthony Carter (Las Vegas, NV). Bettye leaves behind her husband of over 50 years: Leon Dixon and her three daughters: Sheron Carter, Marilyn Carter & Denise Dixon (Las Vegas, NV) and a host of grand children, great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bettye joined Enon Baptist Church (Fordyce, AR) at an early age and was a devout Baptist. Early in life she moved to Las Vegas, NV and it is there that she received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and taught school for thirty years. AS the years passed she held various jobs, such as a Notary Public and a multi business owner. Bettye is an amazing woman. I say “is,” because her spirit lives on in each of every one of us who loved her. She maintained her life being a dedicated wife and mother, a great friend, a hard worker and an overall wonderful human being. As we sit here on this occasion, please do not mourn her, but rather celebrate her. While her stay on God’s Earth was a temporary stop on her path to her Lord, she showcased a life of hard-work and determination and persistence. When she set her mind to attain a goal it was soon realized. She was a woman who didn’t believe in obstacles, only achievement. Please take solace in knowing that she is now pain free and reunited with her loved ones in Heaven’s Kingdom.
