Betty was born in Blytheville, AR, on November 29, 1937, to Cleo Edith (Ward) and Elvie Clinton Montgomery. The family moved to Missouri when Betty was a child, and she enjoyed many happy days playing with siblings and cousins at her grandparents’ farm and on the spring-fed creek which ran along the property. Betty was raised in a musical family, singing harmony with her sisters, and was drum majorette for her high school marching band before moving to Columbia, MO, where she met her husband, LeRoy Throckmorton. Betty and LeRoy moved to the Washington, DC, area, following LeRoy’s career in the U.S. Navy, and lived there until 2004 when they moved to Fort Collins, CO.
Betty was preceded in death by LeRoy in 2015 after 53 years of marriage. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and three of her five siblings: Polly JoAnn (Hubert) Harral, Gerald Morris (Margaret) Montgomery, and Jackie Gene Montgomery. She is survived by brother Eric Ward (Debby) Montgomery of Springfield, MO, sister, Shirley Elizabeth (Don) Kittrell of St. Louis, MO, daughter Kelly (Rich) Romeo of Las Vegas, NV, son Jeffrey (Marion) Throckmorton of Longmont, CO, grandchildren Alex (Brian) McIntyre of Doylestown, PA, and Amanda Throckmorton of Longmont, CO, and many nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends.
Betty and LeRoy were avid supporters of the Food Bank for Larimer County (CO). Donations in Betty’s memory may be made at https://foodbanklarimer.org/ or to any charitable organization addressing food insecurity.
