Elizabeth "Bettie" Cochran Miller, 82, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. She was born March 28, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a 59-year resident of Las Vegas. Bettie was a secondary education teacher for 25 years at Bishop Gorman High School and the Southern Nevada Vocational Technical Center (VoTech) in Henderson. Bettie dedicated many years of her life to Catholic Community Services (CCS), first as a foster parent and then as advocate helping to place adopted children in safe homes in the Las Vegas area. She was one of the first professionals in Nevada to be licensed as a social worker. Bettie will be remembered by family and friends as a woman who did it all. She was a supportive wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She loved to knit, bake and play bridge. She made keeping in touch with family and friends a priority. Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, of 57 years, Lawrence Miller; daughters, Melinda and Mary Miller; and sister, Jan Cochran. She is survived by her brother, Scott Cochran; sons, Michael (Debbie) Miller of Henderson, and Marc (Patty) Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Megan (Roger) Remark of Wayzata, Minn.; grandchildren, Eleissa (Nate) Buddress, Catherine Miller, Morgan Miller, and Sydney and Gavin Remark; and great-grandchild, Leighton Buddress. Memorial service to celebrate Bettie's life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S.
