Bettie Faye Hooper was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on July 21, 1943, to George Hooper, Sr. and Minnie Marshall. She moved to California while expecting her first child Charlotte. After having Charlotte, she had another daughter Charmel D Hooper. Mrs. Hooper realized the importance of having a High School diploma, so she returned to school and received her GED. She met Bill McCowen who preceded her in death. From this union, she had Tracy L McCowen; sons, Quentin K. McCowen and Christopher A. McCowen. She worked for a while as a nursing assistant and realized the pressures of a young family needed her more than a career. Bettie was a very friendly person who loved life and loved to laugh. She loved her family and taking care of them was first and fore most. Every time I visited mom, she would say how her 1st granddaughter (Katrina) was the one that started calling her "Grammie”! Bettie loved to read novels about slavery, and romance. She also loved her soap's, Young and the Restless, General Hospital, the Bold and the Beautiful. Bettie loved bright colors but she was mostly drawn to her favorite color, purple. Although her sister said this too, it was something she would say also when times got rough, "If it's too much to handle, put it in God's hands. Bettie had people in her life that she remained in close contact with over the years. Those special friends consisted of; Marla J Davenport and Harlee M Davenport, Doreen A Smith-Strain, Bobby Kennedy, Gail Kelly, and Vicki Parks. She also has a cousin she was very close to name Cora Mae. Mrs. Hooper departed this life on September 20, 2014. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charmel D Hooper; grandson, Deon R Dunlap-McCowen, a sister, Georgia Hooper and brother- in- law, Mack, brother, Robert Lee Whitstone; and her father George Hooper Sr. and Bill McCowen. She is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte F Hooper DeSensi and Tracy McCowen; two sons, Quentin and Chistopher McCowen; grandchildren, Katrina Lanise and Melonie Joy, Kyle, Aundre, Tyler, Christopher Jr. and Allina; brother, George Hooper, Jr. sister, Angie Hooper; and son-in-law, David C. DeSensi.
