Beth Macfarlane Cory Garside, 97, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Born November 15, 1917 on a small farm outside St. George, Utah, Beth was a beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and friend. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Chauncey Macfarlane Jr. and Mabel Clara Whitney Macfarlane. Also preceding her were her sisters, Glenna Stephens, Idona Merrill, Georgia McGarvie, Anne Shead, and June Jeffers; and her brother, Howard Macfarlane. She was married to the late Calvin M. Cory. Beth and Calvin spent their first ten years together in Washington, D.C. before returning to Las Vegas to raise their family. They had three children: the late Carolyn Laura Cory Gossett, Judge Kenneth Calvin Cory (the late Karen Dyal Cory and Larainne Jones Cory) and Timothy Steven Cory, Esq. (Joyce Catmull Cory). Later in life, she married Sherwin “Scoop” Garside; years after Scoop’s passing, she married Wayne Trotter, who also preceded her in death. Beth and Calvin, an attorney, were active in the Las Vegas community, and Beth was a member of Junior League. She traveled six continents; painted under the name “Hepzi Mac;” appreciated music, art, and entertaining; and most of all loved being with her family. Beth is survived by seventeen grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. As matriarch to her family, her great legacy is her faith, endurance, optimism, enthusiasm, humor and wit, independence, and compassion to all within her reach. A viewing will take place at Palm Mortuary on 1600 South Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Willows Ward, 9825 W. Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas. Prior to the funeral, there will be a viewing at the church at 9:00 am. Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
