He was born in Munoz, Nueva Ecija, The Philippines, to Nicanor and Pilar Tudla, along with his eight siblings: Emerenciana, Esther, Abraham, Luz, Renato, Ruben, Luningning, and Eleazer. Benjamin was the third-born and the first son in the family. As a young boy, was active in church functions and was also a youth leader. One of his closest friends growing up was Ted Tualla. His favorite classes in high school were history and math, but in his spare time he loved to read. He was also active in ROTC and student government. He graduated from Munoz Provincial High School in 1954.
Benjamin went on to earn an Associate Degree from George Washington University and a Med Tech Degree from The Philippine Union College. His favorite course was Chemistry, and his favorite professor was Dr. Corder, at The Philippine Union College. Throughout his studies, he also enjoyed writing poetry.
He was employed for 26 years in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, (E-7). One of his highest achievements in adulthood included the Department of Defense Joint Service Commendation Medal on April 4th, 1977.
On July 25th, 1963, Benjamin exchanged wedding vows with Lourdes A. Feliciano. On January 9th, 2003, he was remarried to Luz C. Pauig, in Waukegan, Illinois. Empathic and loyal, Benjamin was committed to making his loved ones happy.
Benjamin was blessed with two children, son Jeffrey F. Tudla and daughter Bianca Mae P. Tudla. Another blessing for Benjamin was the gift of one granddaughter, Teagan Moll Tudla.
Benjamin enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were bowling and fishing, and he enjoyed sharing his love of sports with others by watching golf and wrestling/sports entertainment.
He was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs and took an active role in the Filipino community while stationed in Japan in the late 1970s. Politically, Benjamin was a Republican supporter. In his younger days, his participation in the Seventh Day Adventist Church was incredibly important to him as well.
Benjamin enjoyed vacationing where he could renew, relax, visit new places, and experience new things. Favorite vacations included The Philippines, Canada, and interstate cross-country driving.
When Benjamin’s retirement finally arrived on August 31st, 1986, he was well prepared. His new life involved plenty of time to rest, watch TV and listen to music.
Benjamin passed away on August 24, 2022, at Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada from Cardio-Pulmonary Arrest, and Ischemic Stroke. He is survived by his brothers Ruben and Eleazar; sisters Emerenciana, Luz, and Luningning; spouse Luz P. Tudla; son Jeffrey F. Tudla; (Joanne Moll Tudla), daughter Bianca Mae P. Tudla; and granddaughter, Teagan Moll Tudla.
Simply stated, Benjamin was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as someone who was caring, giving, and a vital part of their lives.
Benjamin leaves behind him a legacy of cherished memories, with all his loved ones. Everyone whose life he touched, will always remember Benjamin Matias Tudla.
Family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Sunday, September 25, 2022 with services beginning at 2pm, all at Palm Southwest Mortuary, 7979 W. Warm Springs Rd. Las Vegas. Private interment, Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nevada.
