Dr. Banshi Prasad Kashyap M.D. was born on August 18th, 1947 in Banka, Jharkhand, India to Ramdei Sahu and Prayag Sahun, along with his sisters Gangajali Devi, Pavitri Devi, Yashoda Devi, Parvati Devi, Laxmi Devi Kawalpati Devi, and brother Bhola Kashyap. He grew up on a farm, ultimately studying medicine and graduated from Rajendra Medical College. He was married in 1960 to Prema Kashyap and began his family of five children Sunita, Lalita, Nandita, Vijay and Jitendra. In 1971, he moved to the U.S. to pursue his medical residency in New York City in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He moved to Kansas City in 1977 for his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology beginning his private practice in 1979. After 27 years of private practice, he shifted to Las Vegas, Nevada and served as Chief of Oncology and Hematology at the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center. He is predeceased by his wife Prema Kashyap, sisters Gangajali Devi, Pavitri Devi, Yshoda Devi, and Kawalpati Devi, and children Lalita Jadhav and Jitendra Kashyap. He is survived by his three children, Sunita Parikh, Nandita Mehra, and Vijay Kashyap. He is also survived by his children’s spouses Nishith Parikh, Sanjiv Jadhav, Manish Mehra, Megha Kashyap, and Neela Kashyap, as well as his eleven grandchildren.
Dr. Kashyap relished in his work and passion for helping others. Throughout his life and career, he made lasting relationships with many of his colleagues and friends. He enjoyed entertaining gatherings and was always generous with his time and attention. He took interest in photography, traveling the world and new experiences. Dr. Kashyap was a man of habit. He frequented his favorite restaurants where he was known by name. You could always find him dressed in his iconic outfit of a button down shirt, slacks, and a suit jacket with his signature cologne. He would always carry a pen and index cards, ready to take notes or entertain one of his many grandchildren. In his later years, he remained in Las Vegas and stayed committed to his patients daily until passing away on March 2nd, 2024 surrounded by friends and family. He was an incredible humanitarian. He will be missed not only by his loving family, but by the thousands of patients and people he helped and cared for along the way.
A funeral service for Banshi will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
