Today we celebrate the life of Annie B. Jackson. As a devoted wife, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and cherished friend. Annie was not only the matriarch of her immediate family but to so many she encountered. We rejoice, reflect, and praise our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ for allowing her to share her life with us for 79 years.
Annie B. Jackson was born February 12,1941 in Wisner, Louisiana to Theodis Brass and Violet V. Long-Brass. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana and demonstrated Christian benevolence and generous spirit throughout her life. She received her formal education at Wisner-Gilbert High School. After meeting the man of her dreams, Reverend Henry Jackson, the two united in holy matrimony on the Lord’s birthday on December 25, 1960 in Wisner, Louisiana. They would remain together, never separating for the next 49 years. Their union produced five children-Henry L., Sandra, Frankie, Wanda, and Alena.
During most of Annie’s life she worked as a clerical worker for Centel Telephone Company for 32 years in Las Vegas, Nevada before she retired at the age of 55. When she retired, she assisted her husband with their business, Jackson’s Hats and More. Annie was always faithfully serving the Lord. One of her favorite songs she would sing was, “I got a new home over in Glory” She was blessed with many talented gifts in singing, encouraging others, and preaching the gospel throughout the community of Las Vegas. She was also the First Lady of St. Mark Missionary Baptist church in Las Vegas, Nevada. Annie was known for her cooking especially “Cream Cheese Pies” and “Gumbo” She also enjoyed traveling and her second home was in Chicago. Some of her hobbies were reading the Bible, attending church conferences, and spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish Annie’s memories is her loving son Henry L. (Debbie) Jackson; her loving daughters Sandra Jackson; Frankie (Russell) Hollis; Wanda (Johnny) Thomas; Alena Jackson; her sisters: Helen Randell; Alice Faye Walker; Alberta Jones; Rebecca B. Love; her brothers: Theodis Brass Jr.; Saul (Edna) Brass; Karry (Angie) Brass; Noel (Donna) Brass; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
Annie was preceded in death by her father, Theodis Brass, mother, Violet Long-Brass, husband, Reverend Henry Jackson, sisters, Frankie Brass, Sarah McCoy, Shirley Bennett, and Leaster Curry.
