Anita is survived by her loving husband Douglas Wood, her son Geoffrey, her father David Geoffrion, brother Charles Geoffrion, her beloved nieces Cortney and Hailey, as well as her godchildren Taelor, Jaclyn, and Nathan Kahrs.
She was predeceased in death by her mother, Beatrice Geoffrion in 2018.
Anita was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 7th, 1964, to Beatrice Charlotte Mary Louise (Marden) and David Patrick Geoffrion. Although she moved to Las Vegas at the age of six, she took great pride in her New England roots, staying in contact with extended family there throughout her life.
Anita graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Comparative Literature and minors in French and Women’s Studies from Occidental College in June of 1986.
Anita met the love of her life, Douglas Wood, while in college, and the two later married on August 25th, 1989 in Las Vegas. They celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last month.
Anita’s life was focused on public service, which began when she and her husband learned that plans for a park behind their home would instead be two-story apartment buildings. Anita and Doug became instrumental in advocating for the construction of the Silver Mesa Rec Center and surrounding public park. Due to her efforts, Anita was then appointed as a Planning Commissioner for the City of North Las Vegas. She later felt compelled to further help her community and ran for city council. She was officially elected as a City Councilwoman in 2009, devoting much of her time and efforts during her two terms to fighting for the residents of North Las Vegas. She also served as Mayor Pro Tempore from 2013 to 2015. After her terms on city council, she was involved in various community committees, notably Protectors of Tule Springs, Aliante Cares, and Friends of the North Las Vegas Library.
Anita had longed to be a mother and found great joy and pride being involved in the lives of her godchildren Taelor, Jaclyn, and Nathan after the death of their mother, her best friend. Her dream of being a mother came true in 2005 when she gave birth to her son Geoffrey. She was a kind and loving mother and always tried to do what was best for her son, He truly was her sunshine.
Anita understood the power of showing up for the people she loved and did so as often as she could. Anything from attending sporting events and music recitals, to making whoopie pies for her dad with her nieces. She made sure people knew she loved and cared about them. The love we felt from her will truly be missed.
