On behalf of the Monteagudo family, it is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we
announce the passing of our beloved sister, foster mother/aunt, and grandaunt, Anita L.
Monteagudo (or “Annie”), age 83, who died peacefully at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, on
Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by her siblings and their spouses, her nieces and nephews,
and her grandchildren.
Annie was born and raised in Naguilian, Isabela, Philippines to parents Ernesto and Benedicta
(both deceased) and was the third of six children. After graduating from high school at the
School of Saint Joseph, she attended college at the University of the Philippines‐Philippine
General Hospital (UP‐PGH) in Manila, Philippines, where she graduated in the 1960s with a
Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her first job was at the PGH, which kickstarted her more than
six‐decade‐long career as a registered nurse. Annie worked at hospitals in countries such as
Holland and Canada before she migrated to the United States, where she worked at a hospital
in Alabama, and then at the Veteran’s Hospitals in New York City, New York and in Palo Alto,
California until she retired in 2004.
Annie spent her retirement years in Las Vegas enjoying her home, her gardens, and her family
when they visit. Aside from her love of preparing homecooked meals and watching YouTube
videos of cooking tips, singing, reading novels mostly by Danielle Steele, watching Dancing With
The Stars on her downtime, and collecting refrigerator magnets and “Annabelle”‐like dolls,
Annie enjoyed traveling to other countries mostly with her best friend, Charit. Aside from
visiting her native land, the Philippines, and doing road trips to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and
Quebec, Annie travelled to Medjugorje, Prague, and Dubrovnik in 2010; to the Holy Land in
2013; to a number of Asian countries on a cruise in 2014 and to Sicily, Italy with her sister Rose
in 2016; to Russia, the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Finland, and Sweden in 2017; and to
Austria, France, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Monaco, and Germany in 2018.
Annie was known for her generosity, her thoughtfulness, her preparedness, her independence,
her strength, and most especially, her big heart. She will be forever missed by her family and
friends.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Belisario. She is survived by her
siblings, Elsa, Novito and wife Clarita, Rose, and Celso Sr. and wife Nenita; her nieces and
nephews, Marie Joyce, Jay, Marimel, Karen, Myra, Maricelle, Marinette, Odette, Celso Jr., and
Don Roi; and her 19 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Annie will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the St. Anthony of
Padua Roman Catholic Church, located at 6350 N. Fort Apache Road, Las Vegas, NV 89149, with
rosary prayer at 10:30 a.m., Memorial mass at 11:00 a.m., and a reception to be held at the
Parish Hall beginning at noon.
