Her parents were Antonio Lalos and Maria Luisa Navarro. Angelica was raised in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. She showed her creativity and imagination even as a child. When she was confronted with a problem, Angelica could develop an imaginative solution, and she derived satisfaction from knowing she had that ability.
This same talent for finding solutions had a positive bearing on Angelica's family relationships. Angelica was raised with 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. She was the youngest of the family of eight. When a difficult situation or dilemma arose within the family, Angelica was always there to help figure out a solution for making things work.
As a young girl, she was curious, resourceful and interested in anything original. Angelica's memorable achievements included beauty school, gymnastics, administrative assistant school, and modeling. Angelica was calm and serene in her Roman Catholic faith. From her childhood forward she had a special place in her heart for Jesus and the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Angelica met her husband Arnoldo Alvarez Trevino through friends of her eldest sisters Elva Elena and Catalina. Angelica got married to Arnoldo Alvarez Trevino in a Civil Union on October 1,1965 in Nuevo Lardeo, Texas. On October 17, 1965, they got married by the Church in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Once married, her husband Arnoldo received orders from the Air Force, to go to Vietnam. My father’s career in the Air Force led him and Angelica to travel. They lived in Texas, Seville Spain and finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her children were always important and cherished by her. Always supportive, encouraging, wise and kind, she was proud of her seven children. She was a vibrant personality and she enjoyed verbally sparring with Arnoldo. In fact, those who knew her often remarked that Angelica loved to argue for argument’s sake. She was very perceptive in recognizing others’ feelings.
Angelica's remarkable talent for being inventive influenced her relationship with her children. She would create original, clever and fun games for her kids and had a knack for finding ways to make everyday events, even chores, enjoyable to them. Angelica was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to sing, dance, cook, and having good hard laughs over things she did in her adolescent years. Angelica was blessed with 7 children, Jesus Arnoldo, Alvaro, Angel, Aurora Angelica, Maria DelRocio Alvarez, Alexandra, and Gloria. Someone who was quick to laugh, Angelica found it easy to spend lots of time with her children, but she was never overbearing or guilty of pushing herself on them. She always sacrificed her needs for her family and making sure there was food on the table. She babysat neighborhood children, sold Avon, sold Tupperware and sold her jewelry to take care her family. Angelica was always there for her children, whether it was for open-house, parent teacher conferences, concerts, plays, sports, you name it, she was there for all of her children.
Angelica was definitely in her element in her work place. Angelica was a focused worker with a strong drive for achievement. She could assess all of the options before her and, using her analytical skills, could comfortably find answers that no one else had even considered. Her personal initiative inspired those around her. Angelica was always good at getting a project started and then, at the appropriate time, handing it on to a colleague. Her primary occupation was retired laundry worker. Angelica always made an effort to be a team player, doing what needed was necessary in order to get the job done. She was passionate about her job and she always helped those in need with becoming her colleagues Spanish to English Translator.
Angelica was continually concerned with the status of local, national and even world affairs. Politically, Angelica was a strong supporter of the Republican Party. Faith and religion were important to Angelica. She was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Even in retirement, Angelica continued to stay in touch with her old friends and while making plenty of new acquaintances.
Angelica will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile and cracking jokes, even when times were tough. She was stubborn, but she had a quite strength. She never complained and always looked to a better future. Her character and temperament can best be shown from the time she was diagnosed with stage four cancer back in August of 2017 until her passing. Angelica had every right to cry, be mad, or even falling into depression after her diagnosis, but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given, neither hard times nor cancer would rob her of who she was. Angelica fought a brave battle against liver cancer. Always graceful, until God called her home. She is survived by her husband Arnoldo, 7 children, 17 Grand-Children, 6 Great-Grandchildren, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and countless of extended family and friends. Services were held at Palm Northwest Funeral Home. Angelica was laid to rest in Palm Northwest Funeral Home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
During her lifetime, nothing appeared impossible to Angelica. She met the words “it can’t be done” with the enthusiastic challenge of a “wanna bet” attitude. Angelica was able to recognize the possibilities a new idea held, even when those around her could not. For Angelica, the traditional way of doing things fell short of her expectations, especially if there were original and untested methods for handling a challenge. For Angelica L. Alvarez, the fun of living her life could be found in the challenge.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
