Our Dad, Alfred H. Jones (6/24/1925 - 3/14/2023) died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday night, March 14, at age 97. He was married to his wife of 63 years and love of his life, Carol Weatherly Jones, who preceded him in death on January 17, 2009. Mom was his strength and guiding force with a delightful southern charm all her own! Dad is survived by his four children; Carol Luana, Michael, Douglas, and Deryck plus 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Plus Mom & Dad also always included both Hamilton Riddle & JP Gubler has sons and part of our family as well. JP Gubler was a Swiss foreign exchange student who lived with us and graduated with Michael for his senior year in HS. Both remain a part of our family.
A remarkable man who led an incredible life rising from a very modest beginning in the Mississippi delta (Indianola, MS) to become a decorated Navy veteran, Georgia Tech graduate (BS & MS degrees), and international executive who spoke four languages, traveled the world, and lived in multiple countries outside the USA. His Navy career as an Ensign saw him lead the contingent of landing craft that staged the US presence in Italy during WWII.
DAD was a quiet man of amazing strength and grace. He had a knack for making easy friends with folks he happened to meet along the way spinning stories and getting strangers to confide in him. He was just the kind of person you knew you could trust.
What an honor and privilege to be one of his children. We miss him dearly.
