Albert “Big Al” Glickman passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, in Henderson, NV. Al is preceded in death by his parents David and Sarah Glickman, and brother Rick Glickman. He is survived by his wife Sharon Glickman, children Melissa (Joe Kwolek) and Mike (Stephanie), grandchildren Rory, Stella, Naomi, and Josh and Lauren Kwolek, and many many other family and friends who miss him dearly.
Al was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and raised in Astoria, New York with his brother, cousins, and extended family in the area. He would fondly describe the soda fountains and stickball games in the neighborhood streets of his youth, and cheering for Mickey Mantle’s Yankees. After attending Indiana University, Al joined the US Army and was stationed in Korea. He honorably discharged from the service and moved back to New York, where he met his love, Sharon, at Pace University. Soon after their wedding they moved to the Los Angeles area where they created a wonderful life and raised their family. Al had a long career in corporate finance. They would later move to Henderson for a relaxing retirement.
Al loved engaging with his family and friends, his New York roots, his Jewish faith, Italian food, and traveling around the world with Sharon and collecting new experiences. Among his favorites were their trips to Italy, seeing Israel, and the annual “cousins’ cruise” in the Caribbean. He took his son to South Africa on an unforgettable safari, and went sky diving for the first time at age 78. He played bridge regularly, enjoyed poker and current events group with his buddies, and took great pleasure in early rock and roll, live music, opera, and the theater. More than anything, Al was a true sports fanatic and shared his passion with all of us. We are sure he’ll be watching his beloved Indiana Hoosiers and cheering on the Golden Knights to hopefully many more Stanley Cup championships. A personality larger than life, Al enjoyed meeting and connecting with people. Most of all, he deeply loved his family and cherished grandchildren and was proud of the legacy he helped to create. He will be dearly remembered.
A funeral service for Albert will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 9:20 AM at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
