Age 86 of 31 Island Way, Clearwater, Florida and Cape Cod, Massachusetts died on Monday June 5, 2017.
Son of Wilhelmina (Billie) and Jack Pickford of Springfield, Massachusetts and Clearwater, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) of 62 years and their children. Linda (Doug) Raitt of Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Stephen (Carol) Pickford of Marlboro Massachusetts and his grandchildren Ashley and Stephanie Pickford and Stephen and Megan Raitt.
He completed his schooling in Massachusetts graduating from the former Springfield Classical High School, Wilbraham Academy, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
He proudly served his Nation in the Korean Conflict with the US Army serving with distinction in the Panama Canal Zone.
On discharge from the military, he earned both a B.A. and M.B.A. with honors from American International College in Springfield, MA.
Bob was a proud member of Masonic Lodges in Springfield, MA and Dunedin, FL, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Right Mason. He also was a member of the Melha Shriners in Springfield, MA.
He began his career in engineering at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield, MA. He continued in data processing and system engineering with American Optical in Southbridge, MA, then moved to the parent company, Warner Lambert Company in Morris Plains, NJ, and finally with AT&T in New Brunswick, NJ. He was an active member of IFPUG, the Informational Function Point Users Group and in 1988, as President of the IFPUG, he presented a paper at The Hague, Netherlands which was later published.
He retired from AT&T and moved to Clearwater, FL where he became active in several organizations. He was a member of Clearwater Country Club, the US Sail & Power Squadron, and he served on the Board of Directors for Horizon House Inc. for 14 years, 9 as the Horizon House Secretary. He was a member of the American Legion Post 7 in Clearwater.
Bob will be remembered in many ways: Inquisitive Son, Loving Husband, Devoted Father, Inspiring “Pop Pop” & Grampy, Considerate Friend, and Respected Colleague.
A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel-By-The-Sea, 54 Bay Esplanade, Clearwater Beach, FL on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11 am. Burial with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Memorial gifts may be sent in Bob’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
