Robert (Bob) Hagerman 81, of Largo passed away peacefully on January 14, 2014 at Hospice House, Pinellas Park, FL. Bob is survived by his beloved and loving wife Sylvia, nine children, ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Bob was raised in Columbus, Ohio by his parents, Warrenette and Ralph Hagerman, both deceased. Bob graduated in 1951 from the University High School. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Ohio State University. During high school and college, Bob participated in several sports, including basketball and football.
Surviving children from his first wife, Norma are Christina Sue Honigman, Victoria Sue Clamage, Robert Scott Hagerman, Cynthia Sue Hagerman and Randall Lee Hagerman.
In 1984, Bob met his wife Sylvia, on the tennis courts in Pompano Beach, FL. They were married on June 14, 1986. He was blessed to welcome Sylvia's four children, John David Symonette, Robert Keith Symonette, Julia Glenn Mazza and Nancy Marie Lambert.
Bob began his career in retailing in 1954 with the J C Penney Co. in Columbus, Ohio. During his 39 years of service, he held several management positions. He was promoted to Vice President of the "Treasury" Discount Division in 1974 working in the corporate offices in New York City. From there he went on to manage the J C Penney Co. store in Pompano Beach, FL, Lumberton, NC and Petersburg, VA. In 1989 he was transferred to St. Petersburg, FL, retiring as general manager of the Tyrone Square J C Penney's in 1993.
Bob may have retired from retailing, but not from life. He enjoyed playing tennis and was a long-time member of the Bardmoor Golf and Tennis Club. On Saturday mornings you would find him out early to catch a bargain at garage sales. Perhaps his greatest passion besides sports was re-habing houses. He could take a diamond in the rough and make it sparkle.
There are many words to describe Bob: unselfish, compassionate, caring, kind, generous and courteous. He was a true gentleman! He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend to all. One of the things we'll probably miss the most about him was his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid sports fan of Ohio State Buckeyes through and through.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sylvia, and 9 children, are his 10 grandchildren: Leah Honigman, Ursula Honigman, Justin Clamage, Brittany Clamage, Michael Clamage, Lauren Hagerman, Andrew Symonette, Nicholas Mazza, Annamarie Mazza and Brendan Mazza, and one great-grandson, Cannon Clamage. Also surviving Bob is his sister, Carole Groll, his niece Tami McGlynn, his three cousins, Betty Anne Sullivan, Warren Ferris and Larry Ferris and his son-in-laws, Alan White and Patrick Mazza.
