COTTRELL, Robert Carlyle, 81, of Largo, FL passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Oak Manor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Robert was born on April 11, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Warren Cecil Cottrell & Victorine Rose Geeck. He graduated from Clearwater High School and Miami-Dade Junior College, with a degree in Mortuary Science. Robert served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps Reserve. Robert would continue to serve his community for many years as a funeral director for Moss Funeral Homes, Vinson Funeral Home, Prevatt Funeral Home, Rhodes Funeral Home and Reese Funeral Home. Robert started another career with the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners, in the General Services Division, and retired from there. Robert was a member of the Seminole Kiwanis Club, Breakfast, and was an active member of Anona United Methodist Church and served as a Stephen Minister.
Robert was predeceased by his wife, Carol Cottrell, and his sister, Suzanne Snyder. He is survived by his son Larry (Diane) Cottrell of Seminole and daughter Laura (David) Hamilton of Port Richey, sister Janice Reiter of Largo and brother Gary of Largo. Also surviving are five grandchildren Bobby, Christopher, Lisa, Mike and Chuck, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, FL 32725.
A Memorial Service will be held in Robert’s memory at 10am on Friday, April 6th at the Anona United Methodist Church, 13233 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. A committal service will follow at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery.
