The Greek philosopher, Aristotle, once said “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” I’m sure had he lived in modern times, he would have been talking about Bob and Alice Bovich and their capacity for a long and enduring love.
Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 30, 1935 – just four months before Alice, and in the same hospital that she was born. Bob was the youngest of nine children. In the 8th grade, unbeknownst to him, he met the love of his life, Alice. But it wasn’t until they were 16 years old that they realized their love for one another. Bob gave Alice a cross with 16 diamonds, and they had been together ever since.
They spent most of their life living in a 1927 Colonial home on Long Island where they raised four children, three sons and a daughter. Warren and Gregg reside in Florida, Keith in Long Island and Tina in Connecticut.
Throughout his 42 year career as a Teamster’s truck driver, Bob made sure to be home with his family every night, which at times meant some late nights. He taught his children the value of hard work, doing everything he could to provide for them. He even worked a few part time jobs through the early years of marriage because there were multiple very hungry mouths to feed. In 1998 Bob retired, one year after Alice did so they could spend their golden years in sunny Florida.
Bob always had a love for classic cars and also a love for any kind of boat, he just enjoyed being on the water and the smell of salt air. He loved driving even after his 42 years behind the wheel of his truck so they hit the road to travel, and together he and Alice took many road trips, visiting 44 states in all. Their fondness of the New England area coincided with their love of family as well – visiting their daughter Tina, and son Keith, on many occasions. They also enjoyed 18 wonderful cruises together, their favorite being a 14-day transatlantic from Ft Lauderdale to Rome.
Having lived on or near the water their whole lives, Bob and Alice spent 18 years in Palm Coast and then decided to experience the West coast of Florida moving to S Pasadena in 2016. They fell in love with a lovely waterfront condo to enjoy views of marine life, boats, sunsets, and the glistening intracoastal and could often be found sitting in their sun porch reminiscing about their life together.
Bob and Alice had a wonderful marriage of almost 67 years, setting a great example to their children and grandchildren. When asked what the secret to their success of a long and happy marriage, Bob often said that he lived by the principal a priest once gave him.…you don’t each give 50/50 to total 100% – you each give 100% of yourself to the other. He said that he and Alice thoroughly enjoy one another, their family, and have been blessed through the years.
