of cancer while at home with his wife, Arlene, by his side. He was born in Biddeford, ME in
December 1934. Bob graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco, ME in 1953. Shortly after
graduation, he joined the United States Marines, where he held the rank of CPL. during the
Korean conflict. Bob was honorably discharged in August of 1956. Bob married Arlene Louise
Tucker on March 24, 1956.
Bob and Arlene moved to Connecticut where they started their family. He worked as a Produce
Manager at Stop n Shop. Later, he changed careers to work as an Inspector for the State of
Connecticut. After 22 years, he retired as the Director of Occupational Licensing in the
Department of Consumer Protection for the State of Connecticut. He was a member of The
Elks, American Legion, and he was very involved with community activities in Connecticut and
Florida. He held the title of President of the Association of Pointe West Mobile Park for over 12
years. In addition, he was a member of The Friendship Community Church in Florida.
He had a passion for fishing, boating, golfing, darts and tinkering in his shed. He loved to help
others. Bob had many items available for friends in that shed. He was always building
friendships. Loved his custom painted golf cart, telling & emailing jokes. He was known for his
football pools in multiple states. In addition, he was famous for his peanut butter fudge and was
kind enough to share it with others (not the recipe though). Friends knew that when walking by
his home and if they needed a Pepsi, beer or bottle of water he had it available outside in his
mini fridge.
Bob was predeceased by his eldest son, Kevin Lee Bell in May 1986. He is survived by his wife
Arlene Bell of Largo,FL., daughter, Laurie Vertefeuille and her husband, Steve Vertefeuille of
Chester, VT. and his son, Jeff Bell and wife, Margaret Macwilliams of Watertown, MA and brother in law Norman Tucker of Duxbury, MA . He has three grandchildren, Joshua Bell of Enfield, CT, Andrew Kevin Vertefeuille/Samantha Norris of Milford, NH. and Samantha Mary Vertefeuille/Brendon Bills of Londonderry, VT. He has three great grandchildren Audry Rose Vertefeuille, Avery Autumn Vertefeuille and Grayson Norris-Vertefeuille.
Bob and Arlene would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft/Pinecrest for their special care and
heartfelt concern during Bob’s illness.
There will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bob’s honor to Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health
(Lavender Team).
