BOYD, Richard Charles, USN-Ret. 86 a long-time resident of Clearwater FL and Arlington, VA died peacefully on September 16, 2012 at Pinecrest Place in Largo FL. Richard (Dick) Boyd was born in Omaha, NE and graduated with a BA degree from Northwestern University. He dedicated over 30 years to the US Navy, retiring as Captain in 1974. He served during World War II, fought at the battle of Iwo Jima, and the Korean War. He was later the commander of Carrier Air Wing 6, serving on the USS enterprise and the USS America in the 1960's. His love was flying jets, particularly the Corsair, Hellcat, and Skyraider, and greatest of all the A-4 Skyhawk. He received an offer to fly as a Blue Angel. Following his Navy career, he worked 17 years for National Systems Management Corp.in northern VA, ending as company vice president. His first wife, Mary Jean Weeks predeceased him in 1985. In his retirement, Richard enjoyed a new beginning, marrying Suzanne Ford, moving with her to Clearwater FL to their waterfront home. Together with Suzanne he spent many happy times on their boat and watching all the birds and nature around his home, taking trips to visit friends and family, and relaxing with his tiny canine pal, Zoe. Richard was the beloved husband of Suzanne Ford Boyd for over 20 years. He is also survived by two children; Jan and Bob Harford of Arlington, VA. and John and Kathy Boyd of Baltimore, MD., as well as his four granddaughters; Mary Jean Harford, and Taylor, Brooke and Kelly Boyd. His step-daughters; Ashley Clute and Courtney and Justin Nuckle, and step-grandson Austin Clute. A Memorial Service will be held at the Anona United Methodist Church Chapel, 13233 Indian Rocks Rd in Largo on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 11 am. A celebration gathering reception will follow at the Moss Feaster Serenity Gardens Gathering Room in Largo.
