This is Eddie Ticken. My mother, Mary Ticken, was friends with Millie since they met working at the phone company out of high school in Newark New Jersey.  They both moved to Seminole after retiring and remained close over the years.  In later years, visiting Millie was part of our routine whenever I came to Florida. After Millie moved north, I made sure to make a call to Millie when I was at my mom's so they could talk. I always enjoyed watching the two of them sitting talking about old times.

Cathie and Roy...you have my most sincere condolences. I am Richard Johntry's oldest daughter. 
I have wonderful, fond memories of Aunt Millie and Uncle Dick (along with Uncle Jake) showing me how to fish in their lagoon.  Aunt Millie and Uncle Dick were always so sweet and patient with me.  Aunt Millie would make a big fancy lunch and Uncle Jake showed me how to fold the napkins fancy. I still do it to this day.  
May God light Aunt Millie's path... to him.

I’m Diana, Roy’s wife in Australia.
I met Mili in 2010 when she generously invited Roy and I over for a month’s visit.
She was a busy woman then, driving herself and her friends around to appointments and social events. It was a joy to have that time with her, and to meet Cathie and Frank and Molly, and Mili’s friends. 
I had a strong sense of the lovely and generous woman she was. She introduced me to some of her favorite crime TV shows, which I went on watching back at home, always thinking of her at that time.
It was the following year she fell, so Roy and I were both very grateful for that time we all shared together. 
I spoke to her often on the phone during Roy’s calls, so remained feeling close to her. 
Goodbye Mili, I’m glad I had the opportunity to know you. You will be missed.



A few words about Mili. As her youngest child, she was the centre of my world, and of our family’s life for my formative years. Most of the values and beliefs I’ve held throughout my life were established at this time.

The first rule I learned from my father was ‘always respect your mother. You may not always agree with her but respect her.”
I took this advice to heart and I’ve lived by the guideline of always remembering the kindness of my mother.

As I migrated to Australia in 1972 and never returned for more than occasional visits, our relationship changed. We wrote to each other every week for decades. To my surprise I found she kept all the letters, I saw the boxes when Di and I visited her in 2010.

As the years and technology rolled on, and phone calls became easier, we spoke regularly. For the last 20 years at least, we’ve had weekly phone calls and before her fall, we would skype.

After the fall, her life became increasingly difficult. There were years of slow but steady decline. We shared these times in our communication, so even though we were half a world apart, we knew what was going on in each other’s lives. I hope that helped share some of her burden. 

We spoke the day before her passing, which held no inkling of what was to come. 
I’m glad our last interaction was a usual conversation, a comfort to us both.

Goodbye Mum, as long as I have a memory, you will live on in it.

Millie was a kind and generous to her Australian family. For birthdays and Christmas, she would send a parcel to her Grandchildren. Gifts were always thoughtful  and with colourful wrapping. They gave much delight to the receiptents.
She was loved and appreciated.

And always receiving cards and letters
