Mary Swanson, age 76, of Indian Shores, Florida passed away Thursday, August 4th, 2016 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. She was born December 13th, 1939 in Hollow Rock, Tennessee to the late Edwin and Edna Bennett.
Mary is survived by her husband, Norman, of 42 years. They were married February 15th, 1974 in Detroit, Michigan. She is predeceased by her brother Hollis Bennett and survived by her brother and sister-in-law Bud and Lena Bennett.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children and their spouses, Susan Rothwell (Elton), Verner Swanson (Cindy), Karen Rice (Ron), and her 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Mary worked as an office manager for Stroh’s Brewery for 15 years, where she met her husband Norm. She was known for her business savvy, her tenacity, and her ability to charm everyone she worked with. Never one to sit idle, she continued working even after retirement renting condos along the Indian Shores’ coastline.
Her favorite pass times were fishing and of course, golfing. Although she started golfing later in life, she quickly mastered the sport. She was a member of the Belleview Biltmore Golf Club for 15 years and impressively shot two hole in ones during her membership.
Mary left a wonderful legacy and will be missed greatly by her husband, family and many friends. Even after her passing she is helping others by asking that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
