Elwert, Karl, 97, of Palm Harbor, FL. passed away January 15, 2012 at John Knox Village Medical Center as his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth sat by his bedside. Mr. Elwert was born in Hamburg, Germany August 19, 1914 and came to America in the summer of 1929 to find a new life of opportunity and help his family who were living in New York. He joined the Navy and served on the USS Antietam, an aircraft carrier stationed in the South Pacific till the end of WWII and returned to civilian life on April 3, 1946. From there he and his wife , Elizabeth moved to New Jersey, he worked for Suburban Gas and started a family. His surviving children are Carol Ann Martin and Robert Elwert, who both live in Tampa. He is also survived by his brother Gerhard Elwert of Hollywood, Fl. and his sister Florence Colaluca of Hollywood, Fl. Karl was best known for owning the Dairy Dream in Tallahassee and for his quiet kindness and cheerfulness he offered to those in need. He will be missed. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday January 21 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home- Serenity Gardens Chapel. Friends and family may come one hour prior from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Entombment will be in Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Largo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association
