By way of Guadalcanal, he took part in the 1st Marine Division landing at Peleliu. While engaged with Soldiers of the Empire of Japan and trying to take control of the strategic airfield on Peleliu, he was wounded. Joseph G. Sena was Honorably Discharged and awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for Bulova Watch Company and worked under retired 5-star General Omar Bradley. He retired in Florida and settling in Clearwater in 1998.

A funeral service for Joseph will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 9:30am, St Jerome Catholic Church - Chapel, 10895 Hamlin Blvd, Largo, FL 33774, Largo, FL 33774. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 1:00pm, Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
