He was a loving and devoted father to eight sons, John (deceased) (Cathy), Bryan (Joyce), Vincent (Lorene), Robert (Paige), Raymond (Virginia), Philip, Lawrence (Allison), and Paul (Janis). He was also a loving grandfather to eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
John was a devout Catholic who had an unwavering and deep faith. John was born in Woodside, New York and moved to Largo, Florida in 1988.
He was a graduate of Bishop Laughlin HS, following which he enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was quickly selected for officer training and the Air Corps.
1st Lieutenant Dolan was awarded multiple air medals for service in WWII as a B-17 pilot in combat completing 24 combat missions in the European Theater with the 8th Air Force.
After the war he went to Columbia University on the GI Bill and graduated with highest honors and was the recipient of the Illig Medal. He joined the American Electric Power Service Corporation in 1950 as an engineer and had a distinguished career with the company – finally retiring in 1988 as Vice Chairman – Engineering and Construction.
Visitation will be at Serenity Funeral Home, Largo, Florida, Sunday, March 18, at from 5-7 pm. with services to follow.
