J. Casey Cox, 82, of Clearwater passed away on October 2, 2023. He was born July 3, 1941 in Long Beach, California to Joseph Cox and Esther Vanaken. He attended Wilson High School, Long Beach City College and California State University, LA. He was a retired baseball player who pitched for the Washington Senators under the management of Ted Williams. The Senators moved and became the Texas Rangers in 1972. He also pitched for the N. Y. Yankees, ending his career on the mound in 1973.
Casey went on to own an insurance business as a Third-Party Administrator in the health industry, his largest client being the school board of ST John's County. He was also very active in local politics, serving as Treasurer and later as Secretary of the county party.
His favorite role was President of the Greater Largo Club where he served for five years. Casey never met a stranger, so with a microphone in his hand before a group of people he was at his best.
Casey was an avid golfer enjoying a competitive handicap of three playing at Palma Ceia and Avila and as a member at Feather Sound for many years where he was President of the then membership-owned country club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Esther and his daughter, Carol Ann Conley.
Casey is survived by his wife, Janice, his sister Ann Hubbard of Valdosta, and his two grandchildren, Carly Conley (Annapolis) and his grandson, Brandon Conley (USN, Norfolk, VA) plus many nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life will be held at Feather Sound Country Club, October 28th from 3:00 - 5:00pm with reflections starting at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association or Tunnel to Towers.
