

JONES, Helen Marie McDonough, 91, of Largo, FL, died Saturday, October 12, 2013. She was born July 21, 1922 in Boston, Massachusetts. She retired from Largo Elementary School as a 4th grade teacher and was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the State of Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Framingham State University in Home Economics and studied elementary education at Florida State University. She and her late husband, Jack L. Jones, were married for 67 years. She is survived by a sister, Corinne Austin of Avon, Connecticut; two children, Marianne Evans Mount of Leesburg, VA, and Peter D. Jones and his wife Mary Lee of Clearwater; four grandchildren, Nathaniel McDonough Evans and wife Emily of Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Evans Robey and husband Daniel of Hamilton, VA, Peter C. Jones of Washington DC, Elizabeth Jones of Atlanta, GA, and three great-grandchildren, Maris, Charles, and Henry Robey. A private mass with her family will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Jerome Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jerome Catholic Church (10895 Hamlin Blvd., Largo, FL 33774), Catholic Distance University (120 E Colonial Hwy, Hamilton, VA 20158) or the Pinellas Education Foundation (12090 Starkey Road, Largo, FL 33773).
