George was born August 21, 1934 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was a graduate of the Stratford High School Class of 1953. George served in the Navy during the Korean War and upon receiving an honorary discharge he moved to Miami where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou. After retiring from the Florida Department of Transportation they settled in St. Petersburg.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou, who passed away in 2013. They were married for 52 years. He is survived by his two children Dan Johnson of Arkansas and Cindy Whisenant (Jeff) of Texas, three grandchildren Megan Hanks (Jesse), Ethan Whisenant (Kylie) and Melanie Johnson and two great-granddaughters Finley and Holly Hanks. He was also loved by his furry grand-pups Millie, Gracie, Bindi, Bentley, Dutch and Beau
A visitation for George will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. A funeral service will occur Friday, February 28, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 28, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Serenity Funeral Home & Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, FL 33774.
