Master Chief Petty Officer Gary Edward Welt, 55 of Seminole departed to his final duty station on Tuesday April 8th. He was home surrounded by his family and friends. Gary was born June 7, 1958 in Huntington Park, California. He was the son of Barton Binx and Gwen Adair Wessman Welt. Gary joined the US Navy in 1976, becoming a US Navy SEAL in 1980 and retiring as USSOCOM US Naval Service Senior Enlisted Advisor/ USSOCOM Senior Enlisted Medical Advisor in 2006. From 2006-2010 he was a Contract counter terrorism Operations Officer for Celestar in support of US Central Command. From 2011-2012 Gary worked for the Trident Group conducting Counter-Piracy. He was a member of the UDT SEAL Association, Special Forces Association, Chapter 40, Special Operations Medical Association and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Brenda Ann Thompson Welt of Seminole, son Robert Lee Bryce Welt, wife Meagan, and granddaughter Lillian Grace of Clearwater, daughter, Crystal Lynn Elliott, husband Jason Novotny, and grandchildren Meadow and Andon of Clearwater, daughter, Sabrina Audell Ranford, husband Gopal, and grandson Michael of Clearwater, brothers, Robert “Bob” Welt, wife Sharon of California and Donald Wolford, wife Carol of California. He is also survived by his two dogs Kallie and Kaden. A memorial service will be at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL on April 25, 2014 at 11am (POC is Mr. Jay Lovelace, 813-317-4189). In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Navy SEAL Foundation, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, USF-ALS Center or The Silver Strand Foundation
