Clarence served 37 months in the Army Air Force during World War II and, after extensive training, he was assigned to the 20th Air Force in the Pacific Theatre of Operations on Saipan and Iwo Jima.
In civilian life, his career included positions of Director of Development/Corporate Relations with the American Heart Association in Chicago, Executive Director of the National Easter Seals Society and Director of Development for United Cerebral Palsy. He was responsible for raising millions of dollars through fundraising campaigns and telethons that he organized and conducted which were used to provide cardiovascular research and resources to handicapped children and adults.
He was married to Mary Lou Wright from 1949-1974. They had two daughters, Kimberly of Scottsdale, AZ, and Christie, who passed away in 2018 from cancer. Clarence also has two granddaughters, Nicole Reno of Denver, CO, and Cory Stege, of Coronado, CA, and two great grandchildren, Harper and Camden Stege of Coronado, CA.
Clarence was married to Arliene Johnson from 1978 until his death of natural causes on June 6, 2020. They lived in Chicago until permanently relocating to FL.
Clarence was a lifelong Christian and animal lover. His bright smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
