91, of Pinellas Park, FL, passed away on September 12, 2020. He was born in Cambridge, MD on June 19, 1929. Carl was a loving husband to his wife, Martha Jean Wilson and was a devoted and loving father and grandfather aka (“PopPop”) to his family.
Carl career started at the age 13 by learning to paint his way through life, from boats and cars, to homes onto condos and hospitals. He served in the United States Army. He worked for Dupont in Pennsville, NJ as well as the ship yard supervisor of the paint crew of the USS Kitty Hawk.
Rev. Carl became a Church of God ordained minister and served in several churches in Newark, DE and went on to pastor in Evangelical Bible Church in Del Mar, DE before retiring to Florida. He went on after retirement to Florida where he would continue his painting career such as working with Barry Duncan and Metropolitan Hospital and Lowes paint department.
His final and most rewarding job ended as a school crossing guard in which he loved to smile and wave to all who came into his path. His passion was to greet each child as they across the street with a smile and a wave.
Some of Carl’s hobbies and interests were getting to do some weekend getaways with his wife, Martha to Orlando or relax on the beach. He loved to travel and go on trips. Carl loved to go see his grandkids in the military at their base. He loved music, playing the bass & electric guitar, the Tampa Bay Rays, Lightning and Buccaneers, he loved studying the Bible, but most of all he loved being around his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Wilson; his father, William Leon Wilson; as well as his sons, Ricky Wayne Wilson and William Lewis.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Martha Wilson; his children, Rev. Gary Lynn Wilson (Linda) of DE, Carl Dean Wilson (Jimmie) of KY, Karen Marie Wilson-Ford (Richard) of FL, Lee Lewis of MD, Naomi Lewis of FL and Saretta Lewis Dorn of SC; his brother, Jonathan Wilson of Taylor, SC; his sister, Emma Lee Sponaugle of Mt. Crawford, VA; his grandchildren, Gary, Chris (Shaun) Wilson of DE, Diane Crider of MO, Charmain Wilson of FL, Angela Niemetz of MO, Lindsei, Drew & Chase Spagnola (active military), Josh Ford of FL, Rosalynn Brantley of SC, Tiffany Lewis of FL, and Lexie & Victoria Lewis of MD. He was also blessed with 16 great grandkids and 3 great great grandkids. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends.
Carl's favorite words were “I DID IT MY WAY”.
