Jones, Alvena C., 98, passed away on May 3, 2016, after suffering injuries from a fall. Alvena was born October 7, 1917, in Clearwater, Fl and was a life-long resident of both Clearwater and Largo, graduating from Largo High School in 1933 at the age of 16. Alvena was born to Andrew and Alvena Counts who came to Florida in 1910 and were one of the pioneering families in the settlement of Largo. Alvena was predeceased by her two husbands, Willard Koon and Lt. Col. William L. (Bill) Jones. She and Bill were avid boaters and golfers, often caravanning with friends in RVs to play golf courses all over the country. Her greatest passion was traveling and she has visited every state in the US. Alvena was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Travel Is Fun travel club and the Largo Area Historical Society. She is survived by her loving family – daughter and son-in-law, Judith L. and Ronald D. Howe, of Largo; two grandsons, Scott A Zengel (wife Lori) of Tallahassee, and Kyle M. Zengel (wife Carey) of Holiday; two step-grandchildren, Craig A. Howe (wife Amy) of Cleveland, GA, and Donna L. Howe (Josh) of Pinellas Park, and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Bianca Zengel, Zachary Zengel, and Blake MacFarland. She will be dearly missed. Funeral will be 11am Tuesday May 10th at Serenity Funeral Home, Largo. Visitation will be 5-7 Monday May 9th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Largo, Cemetery.
