One of my favorite memories of Adam was at the Florissant house back when the fish fry was every year, Adam taught me when all of the fish was done frying how to make a real desert...not one like the ladies had made inside but how to crack open a can of biscuits and fry yourself a donut. Rest In Peace Adam, Love you forever. Watch over us and I can’t wait to see you on the other side ❤️

So many memories of Adam growing up and playing with my kids- riding big wheel’s, the tin swimming pool, the haunted house on Halloween...Adam was such a “laid back “ kid- I can still see his big smile- seems like yesterday.  Adam grew up to be that same laid back man, same great smile, what a GOOD man, GOOD  father you grew up to be Adam.  I am so very thankful to God to have known you.  You’re sweet memories will live on in our hearts forever- you ARE FREE Adam- in HIS arms!

Adam was always a handsome guy. My daughter had such a crush on him when she was 6(20 years ago) he was always so sweet to her. A great human raised by 2 other great humans. A space has been left in the world but his specialness remains. All the love being sent to each of you who are longing for him.

Dear Herbst’s,

My favorite memory of Adam is playing frisbee on the beach with Teya,  Mark Elliott and Liz when we came to visit Christmas 2019.  We had a full day of lounging, eating, drinking, parasailing and as the sun was setting he picked up the frisbee and started playing with the kids.  It’s one of those scenes that will be forever etched in my mind.

He was such a dedicated father - because he was raised by such great parents.  You two chased down every doctor and clinical trial known to man - from Indiana to New York.  Never gave up.  You both are the definition of perseverance.  What a great example you are for all of us - especially Teya.   


I love you all.  This sucks.

Mary, our friendship began in high school - we've shared many walks, talks, some travel ... lots of adventures!          You all were like a second family for me growing up.   I enjoyed endless hours with Adam at your house - playing basketball, Sega and jumping on the trampoline.   So many good memories of him with me, with friends, with my family and with your family .  I think of you guys, and Adam in particular, every time I drive past your Lafayette houses.  Adam was a truly amazing person.   Nothing could ever get him down.  He could make anything light just by smiling.   I don’t know a single person that met Adam that did not immediately like him.   Heaven is lucky to have him.   I am praying for strength and peace for you all.

Memories of Adam: I remember Adam being at our (Zeidler) house all the time growing up!  I ADORE/D my big brother and all his friends, and Adam always had a special way of making sure I felt included in the big kids.  His endless shenanigans... that undeniable laugh/smile... the joy that was Adam.   From reading these comments, it seems like that joy and sense of inclusion was just how Adam made people feel.  What a unique and special man who will be sorely missed.

Twice. Twice is the amount of times I actually hung out with Adam. These two times were enough to make a big enough impact on me to keep his name flowing through our house, at bible study & church as we covered him in prayer through his sickness.  Adam was family (my brother in laws brother) and as I have read in all the beautiful comments about his smile....I have to say, its the one thing I really remember.  He had an unforgettable, contagious smile.  He was funny,  kind and when he spoke, its as if you had known him for years (what an incredible quality to have).
Blessed to have known Adam, heart broken to have lost him.

I remember Adam hanging around the Zeidler house a lot when we were kids!  He happened to be there one year on my birthday. I really wanted to go to IHOP for dinner and Adam joined us. When he learned that the workers don’t sing to you on your birthday, he actually stood on his chair and got the entire restaurant to sing to me. 

Adam always had a smile on his face!  I will always remember how he would go out of his way to bring joy to others. Heaven gained a beautiful angel!

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Adam. As a parent, I can’t imagine the heartache that you are experiencing. I am praying everyday that you can feel the comfort that God provides and that His love will help you through these tough times. All my love to each of you. (Matt- we know what it is to lose a sibling. We are always here to talk to. If you need a friend who understands, us Rupps are there. ❤️)

I always have a moment of happiness when I remember the fun we had with Adam at Outer Banks, NC. Playing basketball in the driveway and trying to imitate Adam walking down the road dribbling the ball through his legs with every step. Adam and the Herbst family will remain in my daily prayers. May Adam enjoy eternal happiness, and through the promises we know of the communion of saints, I know he’ll always be with us until we see his warm and contagious smile again. 

Mary, denny, matt, teya, marissa and girls.  We have no words, just prayers, tears and memories. Will always especially remember carpool in early grade school with danny hughes and victor. What a crew.  Adam was always nice and respectful  to us. He was a good man. Love to you all. Jeff and jeanne

Adam is like a brother to me and as far back as I can remember, he is part of so many great memories made with the Herbst/Garvey family. I will forever be grateful for the many years spent together. And I’m so thankful that his daughter Teya and my daughter Kailey are now 3rd generation Herbst/Garvey family and best of friends. He will always be remembered through that special bond. 

Adam was the most kind, caring person we’ve ever known.  He was like a fourth son to me. Adam was a champion for the underdog even convincing his parents to take in a friend who had no place to live.   Even as a kid, he did not put up with bullying, quietly befriending the “outsider” and if Adam liked you then you must be ok.  He was such an easy going person with a smile as big as his heart. I treasure all our memories of vacations with the Herbst family and so many fun times together through the years.  Watching him grow from a little boy to a man  who became an amazing dad  to Teya, was always a loving son and brother and such a close friend to my own sons is a gift I will always treasure.  One memory that makes me smile was how he struggled to call me Vickie after I insisted that he needn’t call me Mrs Garvey anymore since he was all grown up. Heaven has a gained a special soul.  

Always will remember Adam and the Herbst family from my childhood visits to my family in Florissant and summer float trips. My sincerest condolences to all of Adam’s family and friends. Much love to you all. Rest In Peace, Adam. 

Adam was my best friend for as long as I've had memories it seems. We celebrated everything together- birthdays, holidays, regular days. At Sacred Heart we were best friends. In high school, we somehow became better friends when we dated girls who were best friends. We were together all the time. I just don't have a lot of really great memories for about 15 years of my life that he's not a part of. His parents are basically my second parents and his brother is my other brother. Even when his grandma couldn't make it to grandparents day at school, my grandma filed in. I just don't know how two friends could get any closer, really. When he moved away, we never stopped talking. We started a fantasy baseball league together so we would have something to do together as friends while he was away. The last time I saw him was the same as the first time we ever hung out. There were no barriers at all between us. Only love and happiness ever flowed (except the time he pushed my brother when we were playing hockey and I got pissed off and hit him over the arm with my stick and almost broke it).  He never hurt anyone on purpose in his life, and if he did and he knew it he felt worse than anyone could. He just wanted to be everyone's friend and have fun, that was it. And most of the time, the having fun part just happened with him, you didn't have to do anything but be near him and you'd end up having fun. We played every sport together, either for Sacred Heart or American Legion or spending an entire summer playing roller hockey on the tennis courts at Cross Keys. He was the guy I wanted to be just like for years, in the way he dressed, the way he carried himself, and most of all the way that people just naturally gravitated to him. Especially girls. He was just the man. He was my best friend, he still is, I miss him like crazy. I love you Adam Herbst.

I met Adam around age 14 through his cousins who are my best friends and have been since childhood. Adam and I also went to high school and graduated together in 1997. Adam truly was the life of the party, he had a great sense of humor and could light up a room instantly. To his parents and his brother Matt, you have my heartfelt condolences. May he Rest In Peace!

Adam was the best friend a kid could ask for, and our group was inseparable between the ages of 4 to 18.  Whether we were driving around listening to obnoxiously loud music, or at home doing nothing at all, or out getting into some good-ole-trouble, I’m eternally grateful for all the awesome memories of our times together (some of which hopefully our parents still don’t know about)😊!!!  Adam was the LIFE of EVERY get-together whether it was a raging party or just the 2 of us hangin’ out.  It was impossible to be in a bad mood around Adam because without even trying, he was GENUINELY HILARIOUS.  Not only did he have a magnetic charm and a huge heart, but he had excellent manners… one time (around 10 years old) when he farted at our kitchen table, my mom suggested that wasn’t the most ideal place to do that, so from then on whenever Adam stayed for dinner, he’d ALWAYS get up from the table and go fart in the corner! He was truly blessed with a loving family, but I still loved Adam like the brother I never had… may he rest easy!

I had the pleasure of coaching Adam at Sacred Heart soccer. It was a joy and fun watching the young boy growing up. He was a character with great sense of humor. Yes, he did contribute sore throat during those years. Adam was a very good friend  of my son, through grade school and high school.  I will always remember that smile...
