Born to William and Senia (Hantula) Hill on January 3, 1922 in Wakefield, MI, passed away on March 21, 2011 at the age of 89.
Rev. Hill was baptized into the Family of God at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wakefield, Michigan in March of 1922. On May 7, 1943 Bill married Carmela Sofio.
Upon graduating from Wakefield High School Bill entered the U.S. Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He served as a Federal Civil Service employee in the Intelligence Community. Bill obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, and his Master’s Degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1980. He served as Vicar and Pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Taylorville, NC from July 1980 to May 1992. Bill and his wife, Carmela, moved to Lansing in May, 1992 where he served in various capacities throughout Capital Circuit, of the Michigan District, of the Lutheran Churches Missouri Synod.
Rev Hill is survived by his wife Carmela of 67 years; daughter, Pamela (Arthur) Ogle; son, William A. (Hennie) Hill, III; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Peter (Martha) Hill; sister, Melba Bramer and numerous nieces and nephews. Rev. Hill was a joy to care for and his smile and presence will be missed by his loving family.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 26, 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 E. St. Joe Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917, with Rev. Roy Olsen officiating. There will be 1 hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rev. William A. Hill’s memory. On line condolences may be made at www.gorslineruncimanlansing.com.
