Wallace L. Travis, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in Grand Ledge, Michigan. He was born December 11, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to William Wallace and Helena Anita (DeLorme) Travis, and moved to Michigan in the 1970s. A kind but fearless man, Wallace was a WWII Navy veteran who retired from the Navy after nearly 30 years of service to his country. He was a patriot to his core, participating in the VFW, the American Legion, and many military parades in the Grand Ledge areas as well as sharing his pride at being a descendent of William Barrett Travis, defender of the Alamo. Wallace was a giving man: after retirement, he volunteered for hospitals in the area for over 30 years, including Ingham Regional, Lansing General and the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. He also sewed and gave away many wheelchair and walker bags for veterans and hospital patients. With his incredible support, generosity and word of mouth advertising, Wallace helped to establish his daughter’s business, Nana-n- Paws Doggie Daycare in Grand Ledge. Wallace enjoyed being outdoors, whether biking, swimming, boating, or, even into his 70s, tubing on the lake. Most importantly, Wallace loved animals, his church, his country and his family: he was devoted to his faith, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Travis.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Patty (Joseph) Lance, William Travis and Brenda Kittle; his grandchildren, Tinetha Weeks, Mark Kittle, Michelle (Justin) Heppard, Jeremy Lance, Nicole Lance; his great-grandchildren, Kiera DeLong, Kodi Weeks, Noah Heppard, Bella Lance, Alayna Tuck; and his good friends Tami Howard, Bruce McConnell, Francis Foster and Ken Austin, as well as many other friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00am at Discover Life Church, 711 Kendon Dr., Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 1pm to 3pm, and again from 5pm to 7pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, with Military Honors to be accorded.
In memory of Wallace, memorial contributions may be made to any Veteran organization.
