Roger Lee Harris

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ray, James, and Dale; and his sister, Shirley Simmons.

He is survived by his wife, Anita; two sons, Larry (Deborah) Custer of Grand Rapids, and Douglas (Yvonne) Custer of Lansing. He leaves four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Lyle Dean (Joan) and his sister Donna Von Schmittou; sister-in-law, Margery, and brother-in-law, Howard Simmons and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was a veteran and received an honorable discharge from the Army. He graduated from Everett High School in 1955 and spent most of the rest of his life working in the auto repair and service station business. His 18 year job at Wood’s in Okemos was the highlight of his working years. Roger cared about all his fellow workers and his customer friends¬ – he loved going to work. He also had a boss who was a loyal true friend. John Wood was loved by the entire Harris family; he did so much that made Roger’s passing easier. Roger will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in honor of Roger may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or to the charity of one's choice.

Interment will be at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens.
