Bob passed away peacefully April 16, 2017 in the arms of his family. He was born February 8, 1932 a glorious day, to Emil August Karkau and Eva Marie Longacher. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings Doris, Pete, Tom, Joe, Bill, Rudy, Herb, and Brian. Surviving siblings are Janice (Lawerence) Thompson and Ferne (Carle) Preston,
Bob, also known as “the garden and flower man” loved his second home at the lake and generously would share anything “to watch it grow.” His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and supervising family trips to the lake.
Bob spent his professional career as a pipefitter for 38 years at Lansing’s Fisher Body Plant, retiring in 1985. He was a very proud member of the 46th Infantry Division of the Michigan National Guard Unit retiring after 25 years of service.
He spent the last few years of his life at Medilodge Facility in a “First Sergeant” role making sure all his caretakers completed all their duties before leaving his room. He was loved by all and his smile will be certainly missed there.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Lou; four children, Dave (Kathy) Karkau, Robin (Ken) Wright, Mike Karkau, Wendy (Steve) Knight. Grandchildren; Amber, Denice, Mike Jr., Vincent, Hunter, Dee Dee, and Mara as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Bob’s spirit now soars on the wings of Eagles where the air is pure, the mornings crisp, and the heavens spread out before him.
